State Teams (Men's)
1902-1920
The State men’s team made their first appearance in 1902 against the visiting English Cricket XI. The sides met twice more over the next six years with the Englishmen getting the better of their hosts on all three occasions.
At the insistence of William Thomas, the State team undertook an ambitious interstate tour in mid-1909. The adventure produced three wins, fives draws and two losses in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

1909 Eastern States Tour
After three games against visiting English cricket teams, the West Australian British Football Association were keen to test themselves against opponents from closer to home. A lack of interest from other states to venture west spurred Association chairman William Thomas into taking a representative side to the eastern seaboard in mid-1909.
A squad of fifteen players, a dozen drawn from metropolitan clubs and three from the Goldfields, was brought together for the tour. Together with Thomas, as team manager, and four supporters, they embarked on what was to be a remarkably successful excursion.
The ground-breaking 49-day tour opened in the rural regions of New South Wales before the travelling party made its way to Sydney, then on to Melbourne with a stopover in Adelaide on their way home. In total the State team, wearing dark green shirts with an old gold collar and cuff, played 10 games for three wins, five draws and only two losses.
