Chelsea striker Samantha Kerr has cemented her place among the world’s best footballers by taking out the Women’s Super League Player of the Year. The Matildas captain was the firm favourite to take out the English leagues’ top prize after the Football Writers’ Association named her the Women’s Footballer of the Year last month.

“In a league full of world class players I am very honoured. Thank you,” Samantha commented on the Player of the Year win via social media. The Fremantle-raised striker also scored the Golden Boot thanks to 20 regular season finishes, while her strike against Manchester United on the final day of the campaign was voted the WSL Goal of the Season.

Alongside the individual accolades, Samantha helped Chelsea secure the Super League title for a third straight season by finishing one point ahead of Arsenal. The Blues also lifted the Women’s FA Cup with the West Australian netting the deciding goal in a 3-2 extra-time victory over Manchester City.
