Katanning-born goalkeeper Lydia Williams has notched her 100th appearance for Australia. The 34-year old joined fellow West Australians Lisa De Vanna and Samantha Kerr in achieving the milestone by captaining the Matildas into the overnight 1-1 friendly draw with Portugal in Estoril.

Lydia began her journey with the Matildas at the age of 17, debuting against the Korea Republic in July 2005. She has gone on to become the nations most decorated shot-stopper with four World Cup and five Asian Cup selections in addition to appearances at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games tournaments.

“To be honest, I wouldn’t have dreamt that I would have come this far,” Lydia said in the lead-up to playing Portugal. “So really, it’s just an honour and a privilege. One hundred caps is really cool. I would have never believed you if you had told me that when I was first playing. This is my favourite team to play for.”
