Australia internationals Janice Stott, Maria Hulls, Sara King and Lizzy Claydon have formally been welcomed into the national team family with the presentation of their Matildas caps. Football Australia chief executive James Johnson made the presentations during the half-time break of Australia’s 8-0 demolishion of the Phillippines at Optus Stadium today.
Janice, a member of Western Australia’s National Women’s Championship winning squad of 1978, made four appearances at the back on Australia’s 1983 tour of Hawaii. South Australia-born Maria went by the surname of Doyle when she represented Australia four times at the 1989 Oceania Cup in Brisbane.
Sara kept goal for Australia three times between 1989 and 1994 before embarking on a successful career in England where she won the Women’s Premier League and FA Cup with Arsenal. Lizzy’s 26 appearances included outings at the 1995 World Cup in Sweden and on the Matildas tours of Europe (1994) and the United States of America (1996).
