Football Australia have recognised the achievements of referees Josh Mannella and Arvin Shanmuganathan with selection for tonight’s Australia Cup Final. Josh and Arvin join a select group of referee’s from West Australian to have officiated competition deciders on the national stage.
Eddie Lennie was the first to make his mark when named Referee for National Soccer League Grand Finals of 1995, 1996, 2000 and 2001. Mathew Cheeseman’s talents were honoured in 2012 when he was named Assistant Referee for the A-League Grand Final.

The Australia Cup Final between Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC will be refereed by Ben Abraham (New South Wales), who’ll have Josh and Brad Wright (New South Wales) on the line. Tim Danaskos (New South Wales) is the Fourth Official and Arvin the Reserve Assistant Referee.
“I would like to congratulate Ben, Josh, Brad, Tim, and Arvin on their appointment to the Australia Cup Final 2023,” said Nathan Magill, Head of Referees at Football Australia. “Their appointment for the Australia Cup Final 2023 is a reflection of their outstanding professionalism during the knockout and final stages.”
The group of officials bring with them Australia Cup Finals’ experience. Ben served as an additional Assistant Referee for the competition decider in 2018, Josh was Reserve Assistant Referee (Fourth Official) in 2019 and Brad the Reserve Assistant Referee for last year’s fixture.
